Leading Others/Leading Teams Video

Overview

The request was to produce a video to introduce Managers across the organization to a new Leadership development program at Walmart Canada. The video needed to describe the program and how Managers could support their employees throughout the training.

  • Responsibilities: Instructional design, video development
  • Target Audience: Associates across all business units at Walmart Canada
  • Tools Used: Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Year: 2024

Instructional Design

I reviewed the content that was provided about the program and spoke with the SME about the registration process and how the video would be delivered to its audience. I established learning objectives and wrote content to support each objective based on the information provided, scripted the narration, and developed a storyboard.

The video uses best practices from Richard E. Mayer’s 12 Principles of Multimedia Learning including:

  • The Coherence Principle: I used simple text and visuals that were relevant to the content, leaving out any extraneous text.
  • The Redundancy Principle: The video uses graphics and narration and contains a minimal amount of text.
  • The Personalization Principle: I used plain language and a first person narrative to keep the video informal and accessible.

Video Development

I developed the video in Articulate Storyline and used assets that were available in our image library as well as new images I designed using Adobe Illustrator following Walmart Canada’s brand guidelines.
